The Art of Press Release

Today, I decided to mix 2 things, art and press release, inspired by Austin Kleon for the art and David Meerman Scott for the PR.

I am a big fan of Austin Kleon newspaper blackout poems as well as David Meerman Scott’s work on marketing communication.

David wrote a free e-book called the Gobbledygook Manifesto in which he explains that “Because these writers don’t understand how  their products solve customer problems,
they cover by explaining how the product works and pepper this blather with industry jargon.”

Based on this, I decided to take a press release and apply Austin’s blackout technique on it to highlight overused words.

So, when writting a press release, please, apply David’s rule: “when you write, start with your buyers, not with your product.”

  • What do you think when you read a press release?
  • Are reading them by the way?
  • Do you think it is possible to write a PR without these words?
